  • Close any drapes or blinds to help keep heat inside the home.
  • Keep your fireplace damper closed when the fireplace is not in use.
  • In the winter reverse your ceiling fan motors.
  • Use a programmable thermostat to automatically lower and raise the temperature.
  • If wood is plentiful where you live consider a woord burning stove.
  • Make sure your windows and doors are properly insulated.
  • Check to see if your windows have fresh putty.
  • Cut your heating bill in half by weather stripping doors and windows.
  • Each degree below 78 will increase your energy use by 3-4%.
  • Install ceiling fans. This can make you feel cooler by 3-8 degrees.
  • Make sure the fan is blowing down, removing the hot air that surrounds your body.
  • For central AC install a programmable thermostat with a built in timer.
  • Install an energy efficient ac.
  • Make sure your ac is sized properly.
  • Clean or replace your AC Filter every month.
